Standard 6 covers professional development of educators. Professional development requires constant self-evaluation, identification of needs and areas which require further development and finally application of these skills in the classroom to further help students.

 

An understanding of the Australian professional standards for teachers is therefore required in order to ensure teachers are constantly growing, evolving and adapting to a rapidly changing world and changing curriculum and student needs.

 

English and Drama are rapidly changing, as new theories, texts and styles emerge and are embraced. It is only through consisted professional development that teachers are able to provide an up to date, accurate and effective education to students under their care.

 

 Standard 6.3 provides an opportunity to see these kinds of things in a practical environment. Teacher feedback such as that provided provides important opportunities for reflection, learning and personal development.
