Standard 2

Standard Two is concerned with our knowledge of the relevant content and the best way to teach it. Through a sound knowledge of the relevant content areas, educators are able to provide clearly structured lessons which are able to be tailored to individual or cultural needs. 21st Century educators can no longer use a 'one size fits all' approach to teaching, and must utilise modern technology, cultural awareness, and a wide range of strategies to provide detailed and relevant learning sequences and plans. I have clearly shown my ability to do this in Standard 2.2, in which I have provided a Unit Plan I created for Year 9 Drama students.

This standard is quite relevant to English and Drama teachers, because it encourages constant evaluation of an educators personal knowledge of the subject matter. This constant evaluation and reevaluation leads to personal development of a modern educators own skills and knowledge, which can then be passed down to students.

This standard also encourages the discovery and implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander texts and resources, allowing these students closer connection to their own heritage while also providing a bridge to connect other students to this rich culture.

This is especially true in Drama, with a number of highly relevant, well received and acclaimed dramatic texts being published in recent years.
