Standard 5
Standard 5 of the Australian professional standards for teachers covers student learning, and how educators provide feedback and report on the performance of the students in their classes. This is a vital component of a students education, providing constant updates on progress and ability, as well as providing markers by which institutions can measure performance. I demonstrate this in Standard 5.4.
The ability to assess, interpret and report on student achievement and progress is therefore a vital skill for teachers to have.
In a practical, hands on class such as Drama it is necessary for the teacher to provide constant feedback to students, allowing them to continually change and fix performances in real time. This kind of verbal feedback is another highly necessary skill and is incredibly important for a productive, engaging and continually improving performing arts class such as Drama.
Feedback and reporting is also important in a subject such as English, with teacher comments, feedback and one on one help allowing students to develop writing and analytical ability.
