Standard 3
Standard 3 is aimed at ensuring educators are proficient at planning, executing and facilitating effective classroom objectives. Through the use of a number of teaching strategies, learning goals, content selection, ICT and communication strategies teachers are able to encourage student participation, engagement and interest in the content areas. In Standard 3.5 I demonstrate how I have used these strategies to support student engagement.
Developing and expanding these skills, strategies and techniques allows for personal growth as an educator, and this development of skills and knowledge is something that educators should strive for constantly. This will not only ensure better results in individual classrooms, but also the classes of colleagues as teachers share and explain strategies and ideas that are most effective.
In English and Drama these skills are vital in ensuring a productive classroom in which students are consistently engaged and interested.
In a Drama classroom, where students are often in small independent groups and engagement, productivity and energy levels are constantly shifting a strong class structure, with clear learning goals and good content selection, coupled with strong communication between teacher and student is vital to ensuring that students are consistently challenged, interested and engaged throughout the lesson.
